Description:
Philp worked as a shipping agent in Hobart. He spent sometime as a trading agent in the Solomon Islands and lived for a period on the West Coast of Tasmania. He wrote a series of articles on the early days of the West Coast and the ports of Strahan and Trial Harbour and the Pieman river. He worked on the Government Survey of the road to Mt Lyell and the track to Frenchman's Cap
