Thomas F O'Meagher was an Irish Exile who spent two years and three months in Tasmania. Thomas married Catherine Bennett (aka 'Kate', 'Bennie') the daughter of Maria Wood and Bryan Bennett. Prior to their marriage Catherine was governess to the children of Dr and Mrs Edward Swarbreck Hall. In 1852 Catherine and Thomas had a son, Henry Emmett Fitzgerald Meagher. Henry died at only four months old. Catherine left Tasmania for Ireland in February 1853 per the Wellington. Later that year she joined her husband Thomas in the USA. Catherine returned to Ireland in 1854, giving birth there to a second son Thomas Francis Meagher II. Catherine died from Typhus in May 1854. Catherine's Tasmanian based sister Margaret married Thomas Patrick Reidy in 1870.
