The Davidson family were prominent landholders in the Tasmanian Midlands. Walter Davidson, (1800-1856) arrived in Tasmania from Scotland in January 1823. He established 'Riccarton' in the midlands on his original land grant. By the 1850s Davidson had added Meadowbank and Camelford to his holdings. Walter Davidson married Agnes Galloway in 1825. Together they had several children - Marion (1827-1893), John (1827-1879), Euphemia Jane (1831-1899; married Hermann Frederick George Woolrabe) and Lucy Ann (1834-1909). John Davidson married Sarah Catherine Radley (1833-1895). Marion Davidson married Commissariat John Nicolson (1817-1867) in 1847. They had seven children - Agnes (1849-1850), John Norman Marshall (1854-1923), Anne Florence (1856-1888), Walter (1857-1890), Susanna Mary (Anna) (1861-1918), Edward Reginald (18762-1928) and Jessie Roberta (1865-1945). John Norman Marshall Nicolson (known as Norman) married Jessie Dodd Finlay (1862-1893) in 1885, and Margaret Amelia Finlay (1851-1922) in 1894. Norman and Margaret lived at Streanshalh, Campbell Town.
