James Scott was a surgeon born in Edinburgh. He came to Van Diemen's Land as surgeon upon the Castle Forbes via Sydney. He married Lucy Davey, daughter of Lieutenant Governor Thomas Davey. Scott became a prominent land owner, magistrate and also banker. He died on 26 July 1837.
