The Club was formally established in Hobart in June 1947, following an informal meeting held in February of that year at the home of Dr Christine Walch. The Club's broad aims were to encourage business and professional women to realise their responsibilities in their own country and in the world - working for equality for women in education, pay and contributing to legislative reform in these areas. The club was affiliated nationally and later became known as the Business and Professional Women's Association.
