John Allen (1857-1917) worked for Samuel Burrows, Risdon Road, New Town, and later dressed and dyed leather, sheepskins, possum skins and the like at his property 200 Risdon Road.;;He married Effie Belinda Lewis in 1892. They had eight children: Kathleen Elizabeth (b. 1893) Cyril John (b. 1895), Effie Victoria (b. 1897), Mildred Edna Caroline (b. 1899), Thomas Charles (b. 1902), Muriel Joy (b. 1904), David Horatio (b. 1906) and Maxwell David (b. 1910).;;Cyril Allen served in A Company, 12th Battalion AIF in France and Flanders during World War 1. He later ran a furrier business at New Town and was an active member of the New Town Methodist Church. He married Honor Bath. Their children were Rev. Murray Allen and Margaret Allen (later Gregory).;;;;
