The Australian Church Women (ACW) began in 1965 when Women's Inter-Church Councils from all States and Territories came together. The Tasmanian Unit commenced in May 1965. The name was changed on 20 April 1974.;;The organisation forms a network of committed Christian women, dedicated to encourage fellowship and service across denominational, national and international boundaries. In 2001 the goal of this organisation was to 'foster ecumenism and undertaking action on behalf of Churchwomen.'
