The Tasmanian Puppet Theatre, was established by Lyndon Peter Wilson, known as Peter Wilson, c.1970. Initially it was called the Tasmanian Puppet and Marionette Theatre. It received financial support from the Australian Council for the Arts. Peter had worked in commercial radio, as a children's television program presenter, at the Commercial Bank of Australia, then as a nurse educator, but his area of expertise was in the puppet theatre medium. In 1973, he received a Churchill Fellowship to travel to overseas to study and develop his craft.;;The company was based at 81 Salamanca Place. Amongst the early puppeteers were Christine Lincoln, Margot Giblin, and Judy Lynn. Don Kay was musical director and composed original music. Peter Wilson and Sylvia Hodgkinson wrote early scripts. The puppetry included rod puppets, black theatre, glove puppets and marionettes. Puppets were made in the Theatre's own workshop by Kingsley Fairweather. The company focused on performance and eduction.;;
