John Presnell Kenworthy was the eldest son of Robert and Ann Kenworthy. He was born in Hobart in November 1854 and grew up in Launceston. In 1879 he married Constance White with whom he had five children.;;An accountant, by profession, John moved to Latrobe from Launceston with his family in the early 1890s and established a family drapery business, known as "Kenworthy's". ;;The store grew into a general emporium selling a wide range of goods and giftware. It was located at 82-84 Gilbert Street, Latrobe.;;John died in 1931 and daughter, Mercia Kenworthy (1900-1993), continued the family business into the 1970s.;;
