The club was formed in 1908 with Caroline Propsting (wife of Hon. William Bispham Propsting) as the first president and Ethel Howell as secretary. An initial fundrasier was held at Waratah, home of Percy Crisp, so that the newly formed club could create a croquet lawn at the New Town sports ground and purchase mallets.
