The Churches of Christ first Tasmanian congregation was established as a missionary initiative. The Fairlam family moved from the Victorian East Brighton Church to Northdown, close to Latrobe Tasmania in 1865.;;In the 1870s churches were established in Hobart and Launceston, known firstly as "Disciples of Churches" and then "Churches of Christ.";;
