Members belonged to local Groups who made up the regions, which were coordinated by a Regional Representative. The NMAA aimed to support, inform and encourage mothers who wished to breastfeed. The Association provided counselling on breast feeding management or problems by trained Breastfeeding Counsellors, and aimed to promote breastfeeding in the wider community. The NMAA changed its name to the Australian Breastfeeding Association on 1 August 2001.
