Dr. Richard Jones (1936 - 1986) was one of the co-founders of the United Tasmania Group (UTG), the world's first Green party and the predecessor of the Tasmanian Greens. He was the first president of the UTG, through the early and middle 1970s. He helped form the Centre for Environmental Studies Unit at the University of Tasmania and was active in transforming the Australian Conservation Foundation from an apolitical to a political force.;;;;The successor to the UTG, the Tasmanian Greens, first stood Local Government candidates in 1999. A growing Green vote in 2000 saw Patsy Jones elected an alderman for Hobart City Council, a position she held until retiring in 2005. She also has been heavily involved with Bicycle Tasmania.
