Description:
The original name was "Eastern Shore Association for the Development of the Arts" or "ESADA";;At the time of the bridge disaster, the Eastern shore was temporarily cut off from most activities. A group of concerned citizens living on the Eastern shore called a meeting and started plans to form a community based organisation to support Artists, Crafts people and Artisans who were disadvantaged by the disaster. The aim was to provide a facility for Workshops, Exhibitions, Meetings, and regular Classes for all forms of Art.;;The first committee was composed of interested citizens and the James Blackburn designed Watch House at Bellerive was chosen as a meeting place because it was unused at the time. The Clarence Council approved the change of use to an Art Centre. The Committee members were:- John and Barbara Howell, Ray and Dorothy Sherry, Vern Hodgeman, Roger and June Francis, Cecily Gielson Shirley Williamson and Frank Morgan.;;Roger Francis drew up the plans for the restoration of the building and the committee and some helpers repainted the interior of the building and tidied up the grounds with the assistance of the Clarence Council.;;The First event was an excellent Art Exhibition which was a great success. A short time later an advertisement was placed by the committee for a full time Community Arts Officer and the position was filled by Gay Hawks.;;
