The Tasmanian Division of the Red Cross Society was formed following the formation of the Australian Branch of the British Red Cross Society in Melbourne, August 1914. ;;Two Central Committees were then established, one at Hobart and the other at Launceston. ;;Philanthropic activities including Peace Work and War Work.;;During 1915 - 1916 they were responsible for the transportation of returning sick and wounded men from the Great War. ;;In 1917 a Junior Red Cross Branch began at New Norfolk. ;;At this time Red Cross funding came from the sale of marketable goods sold in the Red Cross Thrift Depot. ;;Red Cross Handicraft Committee of 1917 was formed to supervise the various types of craftwork undertaken by the invalided soldiers at the base hospital. The men received half the money for each article sold. ;;International tracing and refugee service (formerly the Red Cross Information Bureau) was set up in both the world wars to obtain information for relatives and friends as to the sick, wounded, missing and dead. ;;In 1928 -29 Junior Red Cross was inaugurated into State Schools throughout Tasmania and was to be established in the school curriculum under the heading of 'Training in Civics.' ;;During the 1930s the Red Cross hired out crutches from the Repatriation Hospital. This service was free to returned soldiers, but a mimimal fee was charges to the general public. ;;In 1945 a Divisional Library was established and circulated books and magazines to medical institutions and later they delivered books to nursing homes, hostels, retirement villages and women's shelters. This library was closed in 2003. ;;1965 - First Aid and health and safety service created. ;;Telecross commenced in Launceston in 1981, Patient Support Services in 1997, Community Visitors Scheme in the early 1990's, ;;1978 the Tasmanian Division accepted responsibility for the implementation of Registration and Inquiry of persons affected by disasters. ;;1983 Emergency Home Alarm Service was created. ;;1992-93 Asylum Seekers Assistance Scheme implemented. ;;1994 the Tasmania Division hosted "Gumbooya," the International Youth ;;Conference. ;;1997 Mental Health Services (MATES) established
