Clara Elizabeth Brooks was born in Watton Norfolk on 11th June 1866 and emigrated on board the 'SS Westmeath' arriving in Hobart on 22nd June 1884. She wrote a series of letters to her mother between 1884 and 1886 about life in Penguin living with her grandparents. She married James Allison Owens in 1887 and after James' death in 1897 she married William Doran Lette in 1899. Clara died in Launceston on 30th September 1954.
