The Post Graduate Committee in Medicine unanaminously adopted the formation of the Insitute on 16th July 1991. This Committee, which had been a subcommittee of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Tasmania subsequently became a subcommittee of the Institute.;;;;At its creation the Institute comprised Directors of Clinical Training in the three regions responsible for Resident Medical Officer education and training. An Education Committee was formed to coordinate post-graduate activities and be responsible to the Council of the Institute.;;;;Subcommittees of the Council included an Accreditation Committee with representation from the Medical Board of Tasmania and the Post Graduate Committee in Medicine. The latter was to continue its activities orientated towards education outside the hospital system.
