Description:
George Renison Bell was a prospector and mine manager, born in 1840 in Bothwell, Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania).;;;;Bell worked in New Zealand, Victoria and Tasmania and later in his life spent periods managing mines in Queensland and Western Australia. A tin field he discovered in western Tasmania in 1890 was in 1965 revealed as a rich ore reserve and is now named the Renison Bell tin-field.;;;;Bell was educated at the Society of Friends' (Quaker) school in Hobart and in 1877 married Phobe Cox, also a Quaker.;;;;Bell died in 1915 in Devonport.
