The formation of the Association was first proposed by the Marine Board of Hobart at the 1964 Conference of the Tasmanian Harbour Authorities. According to its constitutution its objectives included the following:;;- to promote a wider knowledge of the methods of handling port problems;;- to secure uniformity of practice and closer relationships between members;;- to further the business of Tasmanian Harbour Authorities;;- to suggest legislation that would advantage Harbour Authorities;;- to advise members of legal action;;- to employ professional advice when necessary;;The Association was wound up in October 1985 with the creation of the Tasmanian Ports' Association.
