Shoemaker and amateur photographer Henry Lewis jnr arrived in Launceston with his parents and siblings on 28 September 1855 when he was 3 years old. The family had sailed as assisted immigrants from Liverpool to Melbourne on the ship Champion of the Seas, then on to Launceston on the Black Swan. Henry's father, Henry Snr, had been a tallow chandler at Fisherton Anger, Salisbury, England. His wife Turtle Maria (nee Newton) was pregnant on the voyage and had eight children with her ranging in age from 16 to a few months.;;;;By 1888 Henry's older brother George had a house and boot factory on the corner of Paterson and George Streets, Launceston. ;;;;Henry married Henrietta Louisa Brain on 15 September 1873 when he was 21. They celebrated their silver wedding anniversary on 15 September 1898. Henry died at his residence in James Street, Launceston on 4 August 1900 aged 48 years.
