James Brough Lamont was the youngest of six children born to John Lamont (1788-1857) and Isabella Brough (1800-1874). James was born on 29 August 1842 at Launceston. He married Margaret Elizabeth Allan on 24 February 1869 and had six daughters. James died aged 73 on 10 August 1916. The Lamont family lived at 'Braemar', Invermay. James' second daughter Harriet married Alfred Charles Cowle in 1899.;;;;James' older brother Thomas Brough Lamont was born on 3 June 1836 and died aged 28 on 22 April 1865. He attended Mr Hay's school in Launceston.
