Dennis Hodgkinson was a journalist, author and historian with a special interest in Tasmanian history. He was born on 26 June 1913 in Brentford, London, England, came to Australia after the Second World War and settled in Tasmania. He worked as a freelance journalist in England, and as a clerk at Telecom in Launceston. He became interested in Launceston's history in the mid-1960s and contributed articles to the 'Launceston Sun' and 'The Examiner' newspapers. Dennis began broadcasting on ABC radio with "All ways on Sundays" and "Did You Know" programmes which were later published in book form. His other publications include "Characters in Charles Street", "Junior History of Launceston" and "Half Moon of History". Mr Hodgkinson died aged 91 on 29 May 2005.
