Description:
The Tamar Street Congregational Church was the first Congregational Church in Northern Tasmania. It was founded in 1836 with nineteen foundation members, including Reverend Charles Price who was the first Congregational Minister in Australia. Reverend Price was the Minister of the Tamar Street Congregational Church for 56 years until his death in 1891. The church buildiing in Tamar Street was opened in 1837 with financial support for its construction, from Hon. W.P.Weston and Henry Reed. In 1920, the building was sold for demolition.
