Description:
A Princes Square Congregational Church was formed in Launceston on 12 June 1840. The congregation initially worshiped from a temporary wooden structure erected at Frederick Street. The St John's Square Independent Chapel (now Milton Hall) was opened for worship 12 August 1842. To accommodate the expanding congregation, the Christ Church Congregational Church at 11-13 Frederick Street, Launceston, designed by Melbourne architects Granger and D-Ebro, was opened 20 October 1885. ;;In 1977 Christ Church Congregational Church joined the Uniting Church. Members of the Chalmers Church relocated to join with the Christ Church Congregational Church in 1978/79. The Church became the Chalmers and Christ Church Uniting Church.;;The Church and Milton Hall become the home of the 'Christ Church Baptist Church' in 1983. In 2001 the Elphin Road Baptist Church merged with the City Baptist Church to form the Christ Church Baptist Church. As at 2021 the City Baptist Church was still operating as a place of worship.
