Harold Neil Smith, born at Launceston on 21 Jan 1907, was the second of three children born to Harold Neil Smith (1870-1956) and Eliza Ida May Hardwicke who were married in Canada in 1902. He had two sisters Lois and Ida. Neil was a local and family historian who lived at 'Northcote', Longford, Tasmania. He was married to Betty, the father of Noel and Robin, and stepfather of Sterry Chalmers. He died aged 89 on 20 Jul 1996.
