Monteville Smith was born on 12 June 1872, the sixth of 12 children born to Henry Smith and his wife Lucy Ann Kingston. Mont married Laura Innis Kingston at Bream Creek on 4 March 1908. They had eight children. The family lived at 'Highcroft' farm on the Tasman Peninsular. Mont and others used to go up to the west coast to work at the mines and on the railways leaving their families at home for several months at a time. Monteville died in Hobart on 20 February 1961 and Laura died on 27 October 1975.
