Ric Throssell was born on 10 May 1922 at Greenmount, Western Australia, the only child of novelist Katherine Susannah Prichard (1883-1969) and Gallipoli VC winner Hugo Throssell (1884-1933). Ric was educated at Perth's Wesley College, Claremont Teachers College and the University of Western Australia. During World War Two he enlisted in the Australian Army and served in New Guinea. In 1943 he joined the Department of External Affairs and in 1945-46 was posted to Moscow. He was a member of the Canberra Repertory Society. Ric Throssell died on 20 April 1999.;;;;Ric's mother Katherine Susannah Prichard was born in Fiji, where her father Thomas Henry Prichard was a journalist. The family moved from Melbourne to Launceston in August 1893 and lived in the suburb of Trevallyn. T H Prichard joined the staff of the "Daily Telegraph". He was the President of the Tasmanian branch of the Institute of Journalists. In July 1894 he was appointed as a church warden at the newly-constructed St Oswald's Church of England in Trevallyn. They returned to Melbourne in February 1895. His brother Frederick John Prichard was a journalist with "The Examiner", and editor for 27 years.
