Arthur Loone was born in Bath, England and came to Melbourne with his parents when he was 3 years old. After living in Melbourne for two years, the family came to Tasmania and settled in Scott's New Country (Scottsdale) in January 1863. Mr Loone's family were the twentieth to settle in the new district. Mr Loone attended and taught at the local school. He was a shareholder in the first tin mining company established in the north east and brought the first railway truck of merchandise from Launceston to Scottsdale. Mr Loone was also a farmer and small business owner. He took a keen interest in public life. He was a member of the Scottsdale Council, and was at one time Warden. He was also a member of the Legislative Council, as member for South Esk. He resigned his seat to contest a Senate seat for Tasmania but lost. He then re-entered the Legislative Council completing 10 years in the Upper House. In 1928 he wrote a book on the early history of the Scottsdale area entitled "Tasmania's North East". Arthur Loone died on 15 June 1936 and is buried in Scottsdale.
