Richard Crocker (snr) arrived in Van Diemen's Land in 1823, aged 19. He travelled with Captain William Langdon, R.N. ;;Richard resided in the Prosser's district for several years and worked as a Poundkeeper and Division Constable in 1831. He then moved to Sorell and farmed the Thornhill estate, which at that time was owned by Charles Reid. Richard later purchased Belle Vue, Mount Garrett and Arthur Park estates. He used these properties to expand his farming and dairy pursuits and owing to the success of his farms became a wealthy and influential figure in the Sorell district. He was one of the proponents of the Sorell Causeway and was believed to be the first Sorell farmer to pass over it after its completion. Richard was also a shareholder in the Eastern Coast Steam Navigation Company.;;In 1833 Richard Crocker married Mary Gatehouse, daughter of Silas Gatehouse. They had two children, Mary Ann Crocker in 1834 and Richard Clement Crocker in 1835. Richard's wife Mary died in 1835 and he subsequently remarried. He died in 1883 and his remains were deposited in the family vault at Sorell.;;Richard Crocker's only son, Richard Clement Crocker (or Clement as he was commonly known) followed in his father's footsteps and also became a prosperous farmer. His dairy at Thornhill estate was notable for producing over 50 different types of cheese. ;;Clement married Frances Charlotte Sophia Blyth in 1863 and together they had three children, Frances Mary Crocker in 1864, Mary Hansford Crocker in 1865 and Richard Francis Daniel Crocker in 1867. Two days after giving birth to Richard Francis Daniel, Frances Crocker died of cholera. ;;Richard Clement Crocker died in 1933, aged 98.
