Description:
John Kidd was born at Evandale on 18 September 1887, the son of Alexander and Sarah Kidd. He joined the AIF in 1915, training at Claremont in Tasmania and Broadmeadows in Victoria. He sailed for Gallipoli on 16 May 1915 and served in the 15th Battalion. He was discharged medically unfit on 10 May 1916. He was promoted to Sergeant while on duty. John was granted a soldier settlement farm named 'Waratah' at Ringarooma. He was a carpenter and builder before the war and continued this trade when he returned to Tasmania. ;;;;Kidd was life member of the RSL Ringarooma Sub-Branch. For more than 50 years he wrote letters to the Repatriation Commission on behalf of northeast Tasmanian ex-servicemen and women. ;;;;Kidd was also member of the Ringarooma Council. He was a proilfic writer of letters to the editor on topics including the Briseis water race, hydro-electric power, the soldier settlement scheme and daylight savings.;;;;John Kidd died in 1980.
