Soroptimism, from the words 'soror' (sister) and 'optima' (best) is an international organisation of professional and business women. The objects of the organisation include ethical behaviour, striving for human rights, advancing the status of women, and developing a spirit of friendship and service. ;;The Hobart Club was the first Tasmanian club to be chartered in September 1949. Although at one time the south of the state hosted three clubs (Hobart, New Norfolk and Clarence), as of 2019 the Hobart Club is the only remaining southern SI Club. The Hobart SI Club undertakes a wide range of fundraising activities, with funds distributed to local charities/organisations. They also run social activities and hold regular club meetings.
