Description:
The sport of coursing refers to greyhound racing which took place at various country estates before formal tracks were created.;;In Tasmania there were several clubs - Southern, Northern and North-Western. The earliest was the Southern Tasmanian Coursing Club, established in late August 1877. This was closely followed by the Northern Tasmanian Coursing Club, formed on 2nd July 1878 and the North-Western Club in 1900. In 1915 the Northern Tasmanian Coursing Club changed its name to The National Coursing Club of Tasmania. It eventually became the controlling body for Greyhound Racing in Tasmania and regulated the industry in the state.
