Henry Woods was born in Cheltenham England c. 1801. In 1821, he was convicted in Gloucester for shop lifting and transported to New South Wales per the Shipley. Henry received his certificate of freedom in 1828 and sailed to Western Australia where he married Elizabeth Robinson and had four children. In 1845, Henry was convicted of stealing and transported to Van Diemen's Land on the ship Champion. He received his conditional pardon in 1853 and the same year remarried to Jane McCurrie.;;In 1859, Henry applied to the government for Crown Land in order to build visitors accommodation at The Springs at Mount Wellington. Permission was given and the accommodation was built. Henry and Jane became the first residents at The Springs. They maintained their accommodation from 1859 until their deaths in 1882.;;
