Ray was born on 26th January 1910 in Hobart. He went to the Friends School for a few years and then to Hutchins School. One of his first jobs was with the family firm of T. J. Cane & Co, Ironmongers whose building still stands in Hobart but no longer part of the family. He was with Woolworths as a trainee manager for a short while before joining Lewis Berger & Sons. With this job he was posted to Perth for a number of years.When war broke out he joined the RAN and spent the time as a Lieutenant. He returned to Bergers after the war for a short time before joining the family company of George Morgan & Co in Sydney. He left there after a couple of years to set up Glazebrooks Paints in Sydney His next job was Sales Manager for Porter & Galbraith's subsidiary Maxwell porter Pty. Ltd. With reorganisation taking place he left there and joined his son, Peter, in starting a Screen Printing business. He remained with this until it was sold and he finally retired in 1972. He married Nance Sagar from Sydney in 1940 and they spent most of their life in Sydney with 2 children, Peter & Wendy. He was always an active member of the community joining Apex in Sydney and Hobart, Rotary in Lane Cove and later Probus in Lindfield. He died at Lane Cove on 19th December 1999;;
