| Description: |
Following a Royal Commission into the administration of the Forestry Department the Government amended the Forestry Act to abolish the position of Conservator of Forests and replace him with a 3 member Commission. The Chief Commissioner and his 2 Assistant Commissioners were joined by another Assistant commissioner, with special responsibility for private forestry, when the Act was again amended in 1978. The Act was amended in 1994 to make the Department a Corporation, at which point the Commission was abolished and its functions transferred to the Board of the Corporation.
