To promote physical fitness activities throughout the State as part of a national scheme.;;;;Youth Hostelling was first established in in Victoria in 1939. Tasmania followed very shortly after through the medium of the National Fitness Council of Tasmania which formed a Camps and Hostels Sub-committee which worked for the development of hostels and camp sites until the formation of the Youth Hostels Association in 1951.;;;;
