Description:
The Board of Technical Education carried the responsibility to provide technical and industry training, regulating the standards of qualifications for industry employees and the setting of curricula and examinations. Public bodies, such as the Hydro Electric Commission became associated with development of technical education through their representation on the Board. The Board's first chairman was H.E.C. associate commissioner Professor Graham Newstead who presided over the inaugural meeting of the Board on 19 March 1963.
