The Queen Alexandra Hospital for Women was established in 1905 in Hobart on a site in Hampden Road, Battery Point to commemorate the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra in 1902.;;;;It was an institution to provide antenatal care for maternity cases and also to educate and train women in the duties of Midwives and Nurses and to provide accomodation to such paying patients as the Executive Committee approved of.;;Control of the hospital was vested in the contributors elected at the Annual General Meeting. A General Committee met every two months and appointed a House Committee and a Finance Committee who managed the staffing and the internal management of the hospital.;;In 1950 the founding association dissolved its Board of Management in favour of one with a majority appointed by the government. Management of the Hospital became more and more closely associated with the Royal Hobart Hospital. In August 1980 it closed its doors and moved into a new building on the Royal Hobart site. Although retaining the name Queen Alexandra Hospital it was the maternity division of the Royal until closed in 1999 to make way for the co-location of a private hospital with the Royal.~
