When Port Arthur was closed the inmates of the asylum there were transferred to the Cascades. When it in turn was closed, the majority of them were transferred to New Norfolk. This hospital was proclaimed within the Campbell Street Gaol for those inmates at Cascades deemed to be criminally insane. In December 1893 the 27 surviving inmates were transferred to the Hospital at New Norfolk and the Hobart Hospital for the Insane was closed. The only record of this institution to survive is the Case Book transferred to it with the inmates from the Cascades (and subsequently transferred to New Norfolk). The inmates can be readily identified in the admission register (HSD247) of the Hospital for the Insane, New Norfolk.~
