Description:
The registration of land transaction, deed and births, deaths and marriages. Performing civil marriages. Registering marriage celebrants under Federal legislation. The Division came into being when its predecessor Department was amalgamated into the Law Department and it continued to function there until 17 July 1989 when the Law Department itself was amalgamated into the Department of Justice. The Registrar-General's Division was transferred to the Department of Environment and Planning, with the exception of its Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages which remained a part of the Department of Justice. From 17 July 1989 the Division was solely concerned with the registration of land transactions and deeds.
