The Registry remained with those parts of the Law Department amalgamated into the Department of Justice as part of a general re-organisation of the Tasmanian State Service on 17 July 1989. (the Registrar-General's Division, of which this Registry had formed an autonomous branch, was transferred to the Department of Environment and Planning).
