Description:
As originally constituted the District comprised the Municipality of Queenstown and the Board managed the Queenstown. Statutory Rule 1968 Number 113, dated 16 July, added the municipalities of Gormanston and Strahan, changed the name of the hospital to Lyell District Hospital, and transferred management of the Strahan District Nursing Centre from the Department to the Board. There is some confusion over when the Board changed its name to West Coast but the formal instrument accomplishing the change (SR1983/190) was dated 27 September 1983.~
