St Helens was formerly part of the St Marys District. As an interim measure in the re-organisation of the State's health services, the Districts were amalgamated into three regional bodies on 19 June 1990 (SR1990/98). On that day the St Helens Board was abolished and the District was amalgamated into the Launceston Public Hospitals District.
