Description:
This District was created as part of a process of amalgamation to centralise control of hospital services in the North West of the State to support a group of hospitals capable of providing a range of services comparable to a major metropolitan hospital. This was overtaken by a re-organisation of the State's health services along regional lines and on 19 June 1990 King Island and teh Districts on the West Coast were amalgamated with the North West Region (SR1990/98). This interim arrangement was replaced by a Health Board established by legislation to manage the region on 1 July 1991.~
