The administration of justice in minor civil and criminal matters in the district of Devonport. The local magistrate/Justices also presided over hearings in the Childrens and Licensing and Mining Court. Administrative reponsibility for Ulverstone Lower Courts was held by the Devonport Magistrates Court.
By 1989 with the establishment of the Magistrates Court of Tasmania, there were only four local courts remaining, Burnie, Devonport, Launceston & Hobart. Some rural areas were serviced by the Local Court on Circuit from one of these four courts. At this time the Devonport Lower Courts became known as the Devonport Magistrates Court.
By 2012 the Devonport Court had filing and administrative responsibility for the Currie Country Court.
