In 1965 Hobart High School became known as the Hobart High Matriculation College as an interim measure. This was succeeded by the Hobart Matriculation College in the following year catering for years 11 and 12 with years 7 to 10 being separated to form the new Taroona High School.
In the late 1980s the College was relocated from Letitia Street, North Hobart to Olinda Grove, Mount Nelson and was renamed Hobart College.
As a result of the State Government's Tasmania Tomorrow initiative, Hobart College in 2009 became two southern campuses for the Tasmanian Academy and the Tasmanian Polytechnic.
