On 18 September 1998, following a change of government, the Department of Community and Health Services was renamed. At the same time the department assumed administrative responsibility for the Tasmanian Fire Service.;; ;;As of 2016-17, the Department had four operational groups: Ambulance Tasmania; Children and Youth Services; Housing, Disability and Community Services and Public Health Services. ;;;;From 1 July 2009 the Department created three health services in the south, north and north-west to manage primary and acute heath service delivery. The Tasmanian Health Organisations Act 2011 established these three services as seperate statutory authorities from the Department known as the Tasmanian Health Organisations (THOs), commencing operation on 1 July 2012.;;;;The Department of Communities was created in July 2018, which incorporated Children and Youth Services and Housing, Disability and Community Services.
