Description:
The Victoria Museum and Art Gallery was established in 1891. As from 23 August 1895 the building and its contents were formally vested in the mayor, aldermen and citizens of Launceston (4&5 Vict. No.5). The Act permanently endowed the Museum from consolidated revenue, vested its management in the corporation and required publication of an annual report. The Launceston Corporation Act 1941 restated the provisions (Sections 304 & 305) and these were repeated verbatim (as Sections 197 & 198) in the Launceston Corporation Act 1963.~
