Description:
The office was created in 1989 as part of a national campaign to increase the health of the population. It operated as part of the Department of Tourism, Sport and Recreation until 27 March 1996 when it was detached as a separate Office and became part of the Community Development activities of the Department of Education. On 18 September 1998, following a change of government, the Office became part of the Department of State Development.;;;;In August 2002, Sport and Recreation Tasmania was formed as a division within the new Department of Economic Development.
