Effective 1 May 1998 the Tasmanian Racing Authority was reconstituted as Racing Tasmania. The new authority comprised the chairmen of the Thoroughbred, Harness and Greyhound Racing Councils and four others to be appointed on their joint recommendation. The four were to comprise a legal practitioner and one each with management, financial and ,arketing expertise. None of the four could be a participant in the racing industry.;;;;As part of a major reorganisation of the structure of the State Service undertaken by an incoming government Racing Tasmania was transferred to the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources on 18 September 1998.;;;;With effect from 1 December 1999 the authority was abolished. Its regulatory functions were assigned to the Director of Racing but its assets and liabilities, and the requirement to provide administrative and financial assistance to the racing codes, was assigned to the TAB.
